Viz Pilot Edge 3.7.0

These are the release notes for Viz Pilot Edge and Template Builder versions 3.7.0. This document describes the user-visible changes that have been made to the software since release 3.6.0.

Release Highlights

Viz Pilot Edge 3.7.0 focuses on the preview experience, newsroom workflow, and Template Builder configurability.

You can now preview Adaptive Graphics formats to see how a graphic looks across output formats before air, step through preview points more easily, and report errors directly from the panel. Graphics can also be dragged straight from the preview image into a story.

Newsroom workflow is clearer, with the Send/Update button consolidated into a single Add to Story button, and a save process that can be controlled from scripting.

Template Builder gains more configurability through new database settings, resizable and default-width table columns, and scripting additions such as concept support in PayloadHosting. The release also includes a range of stability fixes for a more dependable experience.

  • Added the ability to drag MOS item from preview image (VPE-6637).

  • Added an error report button and window to the Preview panel (VPE-6622).

Template Builder

  • Added the ability to rename a concept (VPE-4644).

  • Added support for multiple Mosart configurations (VPE-6297).

  • Added a database setting to enable or disable image upload (VPE-6664).

  • Added a database setting for which top tabs to display in Viz Pilot Edge (VPE-6666).

  • Added a method for extracting concepts and variants in payloadhosting.js (VPE-5520).

  • Made it possible to inspect the auto generated template when full custom HTML is configured (VPE-6743).

Improvements

Viz Pilot Edge

  • Improved visibility and changed the Send/Update button to one "Add to story" button (VPE-5769).

  • Made it possible to resize table columns (VPE-6590).

  • Used the named stop point when mouse hovers a preview point in the preview timeline (VPE-6610).

  • Added next and previous buttons for preview points (VPE-6616).

  • Made the refresh button in preview always visible (VPE-6617).

  • Added the ability to lock the layout orientation, vertical or horizontal (VPE-6731).

  • Added a database-level setting to sort the templates list by name ascending by default (VPE-6739).

Template Builder

  • Added the ability to specify default column width for tables (VPE-6589).

  • Added a script-controlled save process (VPE-6635).

  • Made onAfterSave async (VPE-6659).

  • Allowed local network access in the hosting iframe (VPE-6673).

  • Added metadata support for video fields in scripting (VPE-5969).

  • Slimmed the Preview Server requests sent from Template Builder (VPE-6708).

  • Refreshed the Min/Max values of Integer and Float controls after scene updates in Viz Artist (VPE-6725).

  • Made it possible to resize feedbacked dropdown elements after conversion (VPE-6736).

  • Used the new field value when the scene default value has changed (VPE-6744).

Fixed Issues

Viz Pilot Edge

  • Fixed feed-based child fields only updating on model change when the parent is a drop-down feed (VPE-5731).

  • Re-enabled auto login (VPE-6609).

  • Fixed Viz Pilot Edge returning to the template list when detaching preview in iNews (VPE-6702).

  • Fixed missing metadata blocks when exporting an existing data element (VPE-6697).

  • Fixed the detached preview showing a broken image when CORS is in play (VPE-6715).

Template Builder

  • Fixed images created with the createImageAsset scripting function not having a thumbnail (VPE-6033).

  • Fixed the Execution Logic window closing when pressing the main Enter key instead of inserting a new line (VPE-6691).

Known Issues

System Requirements

Hardware

There are no known hardware limitations for Viz Pilot Edge and Template Builder, other than requirements stipulated by newsroom systems hosting the client. Though the web browser and its version can affect look and functionality inside the applications.

Software

Vizrt components tested with this release:

  • Pilot Data Server 9.7.0

  • Graphic Hub 3.9.3 (with Graphic Hub REST 2.9.3)

  • Preview Server 5.0.0

  • Media Sequencer 5.9.0

  • Viz Artist 5.5.2

  • Viz Engine 5.5.2

  • Viz Mosart 5.13.0 (required for Timing Panel)

Note: TGA image support requires a codec program like https://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/, to be installed on the same machine as crop service.

Browser

  • Tested with Chrome Version 152.0.7977.66 (Official Build) (64-bit)

  • Script Units require support for ES-modules in worker threads (module workers). This was added in Chromium/Chrome 80 (stable release Feb 4, 2020).

Most modern newsroom systems are expected to integrate with Vizrt software and Viz Pilot Edge. However, compatibility outside the systems listed above, was not verified for this release.

Authentication

Any newsroom system hosting Viz Pilot Edge in a modern, secure browser environment, should be able to utilize authentication. This requires:

Identity Providers Used for Testing

  • Vizrt SSO / Keycloak

  • Microsoft Entra ID

  • Okta

Upgrading

When upgrading from a previous version of Viz Pilot Edge, the previous version may still be presented by the host browser for a short time due to client side caching. To prevent this, clear the host browser cache. If you are using the default Internet Explorer host, open Internet Explorer, press CTRL + SHIFT + DELETE, select Temporary Internet files and website files and click DELETE.

Previous Versions

In accordance with the Vizrt Global Support Handbook section Software Lifecycle, support for older versions ends 24 months after a subsequent minor or major version is released.

With this release, the previous version of Viz Pilot Edge and Template Builder, will no longer be supported after 2028-04-23.

At the date of this release, Viz Pilot Edge 3.0, Template Builder 3.0 and Pilot Data Server 8.8 are no longer supported.
